Accessibility
Located in suite #603, 6th floor, at 620 View Street, Victoria BC.
My clinic is accessible by elevator. Once on the 6th floor, you’ll find my waiting room, which you are welcome to rest in before and after your appointment.
The main lobby doors to my building are locked during evenings, weekends, and stat holidays. If you have an appointment scheduled then, I will meet you downstairs to let you into the building at your appointment time.
Booking and Scheduling Appointments
My office currently operates on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.
Clients are encouraged to use the online booking calendar to manage their appointments. Booking our next appointment may also happen at the end of a completed session, if time allows.
Clients are required to have a valid credit card on file in order to use the online booking tool. This is necessary to limit the number of no-shows and late cancellations that injure the sustainability of running a therapy practice.

Cancellation Policy
Cancelling an appointment requires 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will be subject to 100% of the session fee. Clients are required to have a valid credit card on file for the fee to be charged to.
Extenuating circumstances due to illness or injury will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact me directly if you are injured or feeling unwell before our session.
Clients who cancel more than 3 appointments in a row may have their online booking access restricted.
Communication and Emails

A business phone number for insurance reimbursement purposes is available on request. Please note that the phone line is not frequently monitored, and is therefore not a reliable contact point.
Email communication should be used for scheduling purposes and resource requests only. The inbox is monitored during clinic business hours. A vacation responder will be activated for extended absences from the inbox.
Occasionally, I may send important clinic updates through email.
Consent
As a client, you have the right to informed consent. This means that you have been adequately informed about the purpose, process, and methods of our work together, and agree to proceed. You have the right to withdraw consent, or terminate the counselling relationship, at any time.
Clients are required to review and sign a consent form acknowledging the above in order to receive services from Emily Schmitt Counselling. This form is signed and stored digitally through the clinic’s online software, Jane. You can review your consent form and profile information any time through your Jane account.
Clients who are under 19 years of age will also require an additional consent form to be filled out by their parent or legal guardian.
Confidentiality
Your information is held in confidence. This means that anything communicated during our work together stays between us, and that your personal information is protected. To ensure this, I use a secure online platform for storing profile and payment information. Hard copy notes are stored within a locked filing cabinet in a secured room.
Limitations of Confidentiality
As a clinical counsellor, I am a mandated reporter. This means that I am required by law to report to appropriate authorities if one of the following is disclosed to me:
A client is at imminent risk of very serious harm, either to themselves or to others
Abuse of a vulnerable person (such as a child, elderly person, or a person with a disability)
If the court subpoenas my records, I am required to comply
Payment Methods
Payment is accepted via credit card or e-transfer, and is due within 24 hours of your session unless other arrangements have been made. A receipt is issued to you after your payment is received.
I do not offer direct billing to insurance companies.
